Edward is immediately repulsed by Bela, and the two develop a mutual dislike for the other. A few months of repugnance, their relationship is changed when Edward saves Bella from a potentially fatal car accident. Bella immediately knows there's something not quite human about Edward, but he retains his distance until Bella finds herself in another dangerous situation. The plan backfires, and Bella is lured into a trap James as set because James tricks Bella into coming to him in order to save her mother. Before James can finish off Bella, Edward attack, saving Bella and destroying James. To everyone's surprise, Bella has been bitten, and Edward must suck out the poison or allow her to become a vampire.
